Young Markos Abebayehu took the chicken he had raised, which had fallen ill, to the Dembecha Primary Hospital. Health professional Umer Chane recorded the boy and shared the video on social media, where it garnered nearly one million views and stole the hearts of many.
“Although some initially hesitated, questioning whether it was the right place for the boy to bring his chicken, I was moved when I saw him—by his childlike innocence and the purity I noticed on his face—so I decided to record and share the video,” Umer told Sputnik Africa.
A New Chapter
A private organization that learned of Markos’s compassion has pledged to gift him 100 chickens. In addition, the organization is bringing both Markos and Umer to Addis Ababa and is currently providing them with capacity-building training on poultry farming.
