African Nations Must Build Interconnected Power Grid to Unlock Economic Potential: SA Minister

A single electricity market would enable the delivery of power across the continent to countries experiencing energy shortages, Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, told Sputnik Africa.

"A lot of the African continent is mining. They can't beneficiate, because it's expensive to beneficiate in the absence of electricity; because now they have to rely on diesel, and they are not competitive," he pointed out on the sidelines of the Africa Energy Forum.

Apart from power integration, the "Mission 300" initiative was also discussed during the forum, the minister noted, adding that he believes Africa will achieve the initiative's goal.
