According to the government, the platform will provide households across the country with free digital television access, offering more than 100 channels, improved picture quality, and Nigerian content without monthly subscription fees.

Government Vision: At the launch, NBC Director‑General Charles Ebuebu said the initiative advances President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda—prioritizing inclusion, opportunity, jobs, and technology for daily life.

Part of Digital Transition: Ebuebu noted that FreeTV is part of Nigeria's Digital Switch‑Over program, ensuring no one is left behind in the move from analog to digital broadcasting.

The final analog switch-off remains scheduled for 31 December 2028.
