Africa United in Vision to Process Minerals Locally to Halt 'Exporting Jobs & Importing Poverty': Lesotho's Energy Minister
"We need to collaborate; we need to engage, we need to beneficiate all our resources before we can export," Lejone Mpotjoane told Sputnik Africa.
The minister cited the 1986 water transfer deal between Lesotho and South Africa, which powers Johannesburg’s industries, as a prime example of an advantageous energy collaboration and proof that regional integration allows large and small nations to build a shared, prosperous economy.
Building on this model, Lesotho is now eyeing a new energy treaty with South Africa to leverage its abundant water, wind, and high-altitude resources to power both economies.
