Namibia's President Calls for Unity, Rejection of Tribalism & Regionalism
The nation's identity as the "Land of the Brave" is deeply rooted in the sacrifices of leaders like Ombara Kahimemua Nguvauva, whose commitment to freedom, justice, and human dignity continues to inspire generations, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah declared.
What unity demands
Safeguarding Namibia's freedom demands collective responsibility, respect for democracy, and inclusive development, the president said during the commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the Battle of Otjunda in 1896 against German colonial troops.
Traditional authorities as partners
Nandi-Ndaitwah also reaffirmed the role of traditional authorities as key partners in promoting social cohesion, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting development aligned with the country’s Sixth National Development Plan.
On the issue of the 1904–1908 genocide, she said discussions with Germany are ongoing.
