Malawi Intensifies Ebola Screening at Airports and Borders as WHO Provides Supplies
Malawi’s Ministry of Health and Sanitation, in partnership with the World Health Organization, has stepped up Ebola preparedness measures following an inspection of Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
A WHO team is expected to assess screening procedures alongside the Ministry of Health, WHO Country Representative Dr. Charles Kuria Njuguna told local media.
The WHO will also provide medical supplies to support preparedness efforts, including personal protective equipment for healthcare workers and laboratory reagents for testing and sample collection in the event of any Ebola cases in Malawi.
“All neighboring countries are doing everything possible in terms of preparedness and readiness to ensure that in case of any case, we are able to manage,” the WHO representative said.
ℹ Regional Ebola numbers:
• DRC: 710 cases, 149 deaths, 35 in isolation (3 provinces)
