Namibia Turns to Angola’s Angosat‑2 to Boost Internet in Remote Areas: Regulator
Telecom Namibia has signed a pilot commercial deal with Angola’s space agency to test Angosat‑2’s capabilities for Internet and data transmission in regions with limited terrestrial infrastructure, the national operator said.
The agreement was announced at the ANGOTIC 2026 forum in Luanda, with the ICT ministers of both countries present.
"Through this pilot commercial agreement, we are not just testing a technology—we are actively shaping the future of connectivity in our region," said Fimanekeni Petrus, president of Telecom Namibia.
The tests will assess technical performance and commercial viability before large‑scale deployment, according to Petrus.
About Angosat‑2:
A high‑throughput satellite launched in 2022 as a joint venture between Angola and Russia, Angosat‑2 covers all of Africa and parts of Europe. Since 2023, Angola has authorized its services for SADC member states.
