Tanzania Builds Resilient Economy With $23.8 Billion Budget for 2026/27 FY
It represents a 10.3% increase from the 2025/26 budget, reflecting "continued expansion in public spending aimed at supporting economic development, infrastructure investment, and social services delivery," according to Finance Minister Khamis Mussa Omar.
Key highlights from the minister's national budget speech:
🟠74.2% of the budget will be financed domestically, while grants are projected to decline by 39.1%, reflecting a strategic shift toward self‑reliance;
🟠The government aims to accelerate real GDP growth to 6.3% in 2026, keep inflation at 3‑5%, and contain the budget deficit within 3% of GDP;
🟠Spending priorities include agriculture, infrastructure, energy, social services, and strategic industries;
🟠Tax measures include a 12-month income tax holiday for newly registered taxpayers and an increasing presumptive tax rate for turnovers of $4,200 to $76,350;
🟠The government promotes greater adoption of digital payments across the economy.
