From Berry Exports to AI Grain Management: Zimbabwe Advances Food Security & Industrial Growth

Zimbabwe's Cabinet has approved the 2026-2027 Summer Production Plan to ensure food security despite an 80% risk of El Niño-induced drought and rising fuel and fertilizer costs, Information Minister Zhemu Soda announced.

Key interventions include:

employment of AI-powered grain silos;

expansion of climate-smart farming with more irrigation and better land-use planning;

improvement of early warning systems and farmer training;

acceleration of the Sable Chemicals ammonium plant project;

activation of drought insurance;

opening of duty-free fertilizer imports.

🫐 In a related boost, Zimbabwe’s horticulture sector generated $38 million from berry exports last year, with Hong Kong and China accounting for 23% of earnings, while India offered the highest prices for the produce.
