Tanzanian President's Historic Russia Visit Rekindles 60-Year Ties, Paves Way for Russian Investment: SA Expert
Samia Suluhu Hassan's recent state visit to Russia—the first by a Tanzanian leader since 1969—signals Dodoma's strategic pivot to the East, development finance expert Dr. Tafadzwa Ruzive told Sputnik Africa.
The visit is expected to attract over $2 billion in Russian investment over three to five years, targeting tourism, aviation, nuclear research, health, logistics, and vaccine production, he noted.
"The influx of investment would help to reposition Tanzania from a silent force in East Africa and put it back to the fore of being a regional anchor for maritime [and] logistics investments," Ruzive said.
A Russian‑backed vaccine facility would strengthen Tanzania’s health sovereignty and serve as a hub for East and Southern Africa, reducing dependence on Western‑conditioned health aid, he emphasized.
The visit bolsters the Global South by intensifying South-South investment and giving Africa a stronger geopolitical anchor on the East African seaboard, the expert concluded.
