Zanzibar Unveils Eight Key Priorities for Youth Empowerment in 2026/27 Fiscal Year
Youth, Employment, and Empowerment Minister Shaaban Ali Othman presented the plan before the House of Representatives, requesting approval of $7.23 million to implement the strategic initiatives.
The eight key priorities:
🟠Create 70,000 decent jobs—Coordinate with local and international stakeholders to expand employment opportunities.
🟠Provide soft loans—Offer $18 million in low‑interest loans to empower 28,339 citizens economically.
🟠Build youth capacity—Support youth development activities to improve economic, social, and political well-being.
🟠Strengthen youth councils—Enhance operational capacity and promote youth participation in national, regional, and international platforms.
🟠Develop cooperative societies—Strengthen the formation and management of cooperatives across the country.
🟠Establish a unified database—Create interconnected electronic systems for data collection and management.
🟠Revise policies and laws—update and align regulations, guidelines, and ministry strategies.
🟠Enhance research and cooperation—improve monitoring, evaluation, and partnerships with local and international stakeholders.
