Africa Must Build Alternative Trade Corridors Beyond the West, Ethiopian Expert Says
Western dominance over trade networks limits Africa’s options, Vladimir Putin highlighted at the #SPIEF2026.
Africa should create value for its resources and develop trade routes independent of Western control, Biruk Melaku, analyst on regional and global issues, told Sputnik Africa.
“Centrically, African countries should integrate their portals, such as those along the Red Sea, the Horn of Africa, and East Africa, directly with Russia,” he said, adding that Russian North-South corridors and China’s maritime routes, along with Russian and Chinese logistics hubs, could support this.
Doing so would allow Africa to bypass neo-colonial logistical bottlenecks, he said.
