Visa Exemptions in Africa Would Be 'Path to Continent's Real Integration': Cameroonian Expert

Whenever an African leader takes measures to accelerate integration, "they should be further encouraged and supported," David Melvin Eboutou, a researcher in international relations history, told Sputnik Africa.

Today, countries like Togo and the Republic of the Congo are announcing visa exemptions for all African nationals, and Cameroon is set to sign a free movement agreement with Côte d’Ivoire—a "laudable initiative," according to the expert.

Eboutou called on African leaders to "free themselves from all forms of pressure, both external and internal, for this to become truly effective."

Furthermore, Pan-Africanism must no longer be limited to speeches, he stressed.

"For a long time, the issue of African integration remained an incantatory question, a matter of discourse that was confined to mere words without action on the ground."
