Suluhu's Visit to Moscow is 'Historic,' Tanzanian Political Analyst Says
11:53 03.06.2026 (Updated: 13:03 03.06.2026) More than four decades have passed since a Tanzanian president last made an official visit to Russia, Kelvin Raphael told Sputnik Africa.
"This cooperation is built on a foundation of mutual support in various sectors, including education, defense and security training, healthcare, and agriculture."
The
partnership includes expert exchanges, with Russian specialists working in Tanzania and Tanzanian experts taking part in commercial and strategic discussions in Russia, he added. Many Tanzanian doctors also studied in the Soviet Union in the 1970s–1990s.
"This friendship continues to grow, rooted in the strong historical relationship established by Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere when he chose to build close ties with the Soviet Union and, subsequently, with Russia."
