10K Road World Record by Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha Officially Ratified

According to a Monday statement from World Athletics, the time of 26:31 clocked by Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha in a 10-kilometer road race in Castellón, Spain, in February 2025, has been officially ratified as a world record.

So how did that happen

The previous record of 26:24 was held by Kenya's Rhonex Kipruto. But Kipruto received a six‑year doping ban, which erased all his results. That left Kejelcha's 26:31 as the next best legal time, and World Athletics has now confirmed it.

‍‍ Another Ethiopian record ratified

World Athletics also ratified the record set by 18‑year‑old Saron Berhe. She ran 4:01.23 in the women's U20 indoor 1500m in the Czech Republic this past February.
