Zimbabwe Airlifts Final Batch of Cancer Treatment Machines After Red Sea Disruption
Fearing delays from volatile shipping in the Middle East, Zimbabwe's government has stepped in and negotiated an airlift for two 22‑tonne multi‑energy radiotherapy machines.
They are expected to arrive on Tuesday.
ℹThe equipment was funded by a $30 million sugar tax introduced in the 2024 budget. They will complement two low‑energy units already being installed at Parirenyatwa and Mpilo hospitals.
The new machines will be split between Harare and Bulawayo, while older units will be redeployed to Gweru to create a third national radiotherapy hub, Health Minister Dr. Douglas Mombeshora said.
