AfDB Pledges Financial Funding for Uganda’s Standard Gauge Railway Project: Ministry
The African Development Bank has tentatively set aside $650 million for the country's 326 km SRG project, which is estimated to cost $3.15 billion, the Ugandan finance ministry confirmed.
The funding decision was conveyed by AfDB’s acting vice president Abdul Kamara during the bank’s annual meetings in Brazzaville.
Final financing arrangements are expected to be concluded during a review mission next month.
The railway, awarded to Turkey's Yapi Merkezi in 2024, aims to reduce shipping costs and speed up cargo movement for landlocked Uganda, which currently relies on transit via Kenya.
