SA's Rand Ranks Among Strongest Currencies Against US Dollar in May

The South African Rand appreciated 3.7% against the US dollar in May, making it the third-best performing currency among its global peers, a Sputnik analysis of exchange data showed.

The national currency strengthened after the central bank raised its key interest rate to control inflation, following its sharp increase in April, according to media reports.

Other top strongest currencies against US dollar in May include:

Shekel — +6.1%;

Ruble — +4.9%;

Forint — +2.8%;

NZ dollar — +2.0%.
