BRICS Has Strength to Enforce Fairness in Global System: Ethiopian Expert
BRICS, which includes low-income countries such as Ethiopia, derives its success from its inclusiveness, Shishigu Abe, a lecturer in political science and international relations at Wollo University, told Sputnik Africa.
"Some groupings established in the world so far have not been successful because they have gaps in inclusiveness. If only the interests of one or two influential countries are accommodated and the benefits for other members are not ensured, success is impossible."
He added that the presence within the group of countries with large populations and those rapidly driving the global economy constitutes a major strength and helps maintain balance for countries of the Global South.
▶The scholar also addressed the weaknesses and challenges in his commentary.
"For example, the lack of alignment in geopolitical interests among member countries is one challenge. Therefore, to ensure fairness, BRICS must build on these strengths and address the weaknesses."
