AU Health Agency Vows Ebola Vaccine, Treatment for New Strain by End of 2026

''Some ongoing studies are underway and we have some candidates," Director General of the Africa CDC Jean Kaseya said during a briefing.

He confirmed receiving a message from that Russian Minister of Health stating that a vaccine already exists, adding that his team is working with Russian and other partners to evaluate the results.

The Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus is currently raging in the DRC and Uganda, where it has affected more than 900 people and caused more than 200 deaths. To date, no specific vaccine or treatment is available against this variant.
