Ethiopian PM Inaugurates Borana Cultural Center

The center—the foundation for which was laid in 2020—sits on 57.6 hectares of land in Yabelo town, according to Abiy Ahmed Ali.

The key facts about the center:

It is built with income from the sale of the book "Medemer" written by the prime minister;

It features a conference hall with the capacity to accommodate up to 2,000 people at a time, and a heritage museum;

It is specially designed to showcase the Gadaa—an ancient indigenous system of governance used in Ethiopia.

The center "is expected to play a key role in preserving and passing on the culture, history, and philosophy of the Borana people to future generations," Abiy said on X.
