Moroccan King Grants Pardon to Senegalese Fans Convicted During Africa Cup of Nations: Statement
Following this decision by King Mohammed VI on the eve of Eid al-Adha, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed sincere gratitude for his clemency.
Key points of the Senegalese football fans' case:
▪In January, 18 Senegalese supporters were convicted by the Moroccan justice system following the tumultuous final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
▪They were found guilty of acts of violence against law enforcement, damage to sports equipment, trespassing on the field, and throwing projectiles.
▪The supporters received sentences ranging from 3 months to a year in prison.
▪In April, 3 of them were released after serving their sentences.
