Uganda Launches First National Rehabilitation Plan to Close Disability Support Gaps: Government

The five-year strategy (2025-2030) aims to improve access to assistive technology such as wheelchairs, crutches, and hearing aids while addressing chronic shortages of specialized health workers, the government announced.

Poor coordination and delayed intervention have long undermined services, particularly in rural areas, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Diana Atwine admitted.

The government pledged to increase domestic financing and move from fragmented, donor‑driven efforts to a structured, rights‑based approach.

A national disability screening mechanism is expected within two months.
