Egypt Plans to Become Regional Grain Hub, Eyes Deeper Ties With Russia: Minister
The country is pursuing a strategy to become a regional hub for grain storage, processing, and trading, Supply Minister Sherif Farouk announced at a grain forum in Russia's Sochi.
The initiative leverages Egypt’s strategic location and includes investments in modern silos, transport systems, and digital tracking to reduce losses.
Farouk stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with Russia, noting that Egypt remains one of the largest importers of Russian wheat.
Noting that Russia supplied 8.5 million tonnes to Egypt in 2025, with another 4.58 million tonnes already shipped in 2026, the minister highlighted opportunities for joint projects in high‑tech infrastructure and commodity exchange.
Egypt’s goal, he said, is to build an integrated ecosystem that enhances food security and positions the country as a key link in global grain trade.
