Kenya Slashes Diesel Price to Calm Tensions Over Energy Cost Spike

The government will cut diesel prices to ease pressure on consumers after deadly protests and a two-day public transport strike over soaring fuel costs, President William Ruto said on Friday.

Diesel will be reduced by $0.07 in the June-July pricing cycle to stabilize pump prices, adding that the government spent at least $216.6 million on fuel price relief between April and June, Ruto said.

The decision follows a fuel price hike as high as 23.5% driven by tight global crude supplies and higher energy costs linked to the Middle East conflict.
