"What replaces it is still being contested and negotiated," with the Russia–China partnership being "the most significant force driving this transition," Mohammed Hussain AbdAlwahid, a senior lecturer from Russia's Financial University, told Sputnik Africa.

With Russia and China offering "infrastructure, investment and security cooperation," Africa has the option to "diversify partnerships," he added.

"This is what multilateralism looks like in practice," the expert noted.
