Combating Malaria With Drone Technology 'Creates Opportunities for Young Tanzanians,' Expert Says

"Young people need to be trusted and included in many sectors of government, especially in healthcare," Sheha Mohamed Saleh, head of the Department for the Control of Malaria-Transmitting Mosquitoes at the Ministry of Health, told Sputnik Africa.

According to Saleh, the reasons to engage youth are:

🟠They are "among the most affected groups;"

🟠They make up the majority of the population, making them "an enormous force for the nation and Africa;"

🟠Many young people "are deeply engaged in science" and innovations;

🟠The ones that are "flying drones for entertainment purposes" could "support government work in public health."

"There must be a commitment to ensuring that this technology—technology that is efficient and capable of helping Africa as a whole—benefits our young people as well."

Watch the video to learn how Zanzibar came up with the idea to use drones to detect hidden mosquito breeding sites.
