'Africa Cannot Ignore' BRICS 'Economies of Future,' SA Expert Says

Although "at the moment BRICS is primarily an economic alliance," focused on trade, goods, and services, security agreements are "further down the line," Oscar van Heerden, senior research fellow of the Centre for Diplomacy and Leadership, told Sputnik Africa.

"The stronger the relationship between China and Russia, the better it is for BRICS," which "becomes important for the Global South," the expert noted.

China sees "Africa as a strategic partner," while Russia wants "to have a larger footprint in Africa," he pointed out.

According to van Heerden, China cooperates with Africa in:

🟠Building infrastructure: ports, speed rail, road networks, airports, and bridges;

🟠Developing trade.
