South Africa remains committed to international law, human rights, and the safety of its citizens anywhere in the world, according to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO)'s statement.

"Such developments raise serious humanitarian, legal, and diplomatic concerns that cannot be treated lightly."
South Africa will engage all relevant stakeholders working with the Global Sumud Flotilla to secure the safe and immediate release of those affected, while keeping their families fully informed as the situation unfolds.

The flotilla was a peaceful civilian mission to deliver aid and draw attention to Gaza's humanitarian catastrophe under occupation and genocide, DIRCO stated.
