Tariffs Block 'Access to Developed Markets for Poorest Countries,' Ugandan Expert Says

"We would need to lobby hard for those tariffs [on finished products] to be removed, especially from the least developed countries," Endre Vestvik, coffee company owner, told Sputnik Africa.


"These countries [developed markets] have built their wealth on decades of value extractions from Africa," he noted.


Another challenge for African coffee exporters is "access to capital being very hard," according to Vestvik.


Therefore, financial support is definitely needed from development banks and other financial institutions who are "willing to back this and to take the risk."
