African Countries Must Adopt 'Balanced Approach' on Energy Without Sacrificing Their Development: Russian Minister

The continent must prioritize pragmatic development rather than following a more expensive ideological climate approach, Maxim Reshetnikov, Russian Minister of Economic Development, told Sputnik Africa.

“Many of the technologies currently promoted under the green transition are, after all, more expensive technologies,” he noted on the sidelines of the Russian-Tanzanian Business Forum in Arusha.

It is impossible to develop industry, cities, transport, or improve the living standards of African populations without affordable electricity, according to the minister.

"There are coal deposits here: why not use the most modern technologies and burn local coal to produce affordable electricity? Russian technology can be used here," Reshetnikov emphasized.
