Zimbabwe’s Mineral Sales Near $1 Billion in Q1 as Lithium Processing Pays Off: Agency
The mining sector earned $983.85 million from mineral sales in the first quarter of 2026, driven by the government's ban on raw mineral exports that forced domestic processing and value addition, said the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ).
Top performers by sales growth (Q1 2026 vs. Q1 2025):
🟠Lithium – $178.64 million (+106% in value, +2% in volume)
🟠Platinum Group Metals – $543.97 million (concentrate sales: +319% in value, +98% in volume; matte +69% in value)
🟠Steel products – $68.22 million (+254% in value, +150% in volume)
🟠Coal and coke – $50.77 million (+30% in volume)
🟠Ferrochrome and ferro-alloys – $65.81 million (stable prices, favorable product mix)
Lithium revenues are projected to exceed $1 billion annually as Zimbabwe becomes a key vertically integrated partner for global battery manufacturers, the MMCZ said.
