'Disaster Preparedness is Moral Persuasion,' Zimbabwean Expert Says

This mechanism is "put in place by SADC leaders to deal with all challenges that can halt development in member states countries" to prevent loss of lives, human displacement, and threats to community security, Lazarus Sauti, political analyst, told Sputnik Africa.

"The credit should go to SADC leaders for arranging such a fantastic forum [SADC ministers meeting in Masvingo] whereby people can operationalize disaster policies [..] to ensure that all Africans are safe," he noted.

Three key issues of the meeting, according to Sauti:

🟠Regional cooperation;

🟠Early warning;

🟠Risk reduction.

"Disaster management is a multi-stakeholder approach whereby all active citizens should participate [...] as our leaders are simply amplifying the voices."

The SADC Committee of Ministers Responsible for Disaster Risk Management is convening in Masvingo, Zimbabwe on 13 and 14 May.
