UN Gaza envoy: Ceasefire is 'far from perfect'
Director-general of the Board of Peace, Nickolay Mladenov, briefed journalists after meeting Netanyahu, outlining the stark terms of the Trump‑brokered framework.
Ceasefire reality: Daily violations, continued civilian deaths, restricted aid. Mladenov claimed aid truck deliveries rose to 4,000/week (aid agencies dispute this – less than 40% of required aid is entering).
Territorial expansion: Israel now controls two thirds of Gaza east of the "yellow line" – up from an agreed 53%. The military has also asserted "coordination control" over an additional 11%.
The deal: $17B over 10 years for reconstruction, staged Israeli withdrawal, Palestinian civilian governance, reopened Rafah crossing. But all of it hinges on disarmament.
"One authority, one law, one weapon – you cannot deliver reconstruction with militias on every corner," he said.
What's offered: Voluntary weapons buyback, conditional amnesty, financial incentives to step aside, safe passage to third countries for those who refuse.
Hamas can remain a political party – but only if it disavows armed activity, Mladenov added.
