Namibia Reportedly Eyes Bigger Role in Critical Minerals Supply

Namibia is positioning itself as a reliable supplier of critical raw materials as demand rises with the clean energy transition, media reported.

The country hosts major deposits of uranium, lithium, graphite, rare earths, copper, manganese, zinc and other strategic minerals, Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy Modestus Amutse said.

Namibia is also developing a National Critical Raw Materials Strategy to boost exploration, competitiveness, local processing, skills development, ESG standards and investment.

“The global energy transition cannot be built on outdated extractive models. It must be built on co-investment, local value creation, technology transfer, sustainability, and shared prosperity,” Amutse was quoted as saying.

The country aims to raise processed mineral exports from 46.6% to 57% by 2030.
