🪖 The Gunners' Memorial in Potchefstroom—unveiled on 10 May 1952—pays tribute to all SA gunners who lost their lives in the two World Wars and later conflicts, with an annual commemoration service held every May.

Historical background:

🟠The memorial was designed by Dr. Gordon Leith, a WWI gunner, and consecrated at a site adjacent to the former gate of a military base;

🟠Originally dedicated to WWI and WWII fallen gunners, it was rededicated in 1998 honoring all gunners who died for SA, including statutory and non-statutory forces;

"To the glory of God and the memory of all Gunners who laid down their lives for South Africa," reads an additional plaque.

🟠The memorial is the culmination of efforts by the SA Gunners’ Association that seeks to "promote Gunner traditions and preserve Gunner heritage," according to its mission statement.
