SA Denies Allegations of Killings of Ghanaian & Nigerian Nationals by Law Enforcement: Statement

The South African government condemned recent incidents targeting immigrants and directed law enforcement to ensure the safety of all residents, the MFA said in a media statement.

South Africa, hosting approximately three million immigrants—mostly from African countries—is strengthening its immigration management framework.
Key measures include:

🟠Economic Protection — a points-based visa system to align migration with national development goals.

🟠Compliance & Sovereignty — an Intelligent Population Register to ensure legal, documented entry and safeguard security.

🟠Shared Responsibility — adoption of the "First Safe Country" principle for balanced regional refugee protection.

🟠Border Management — upgrading the country's busiest land ports of entry through public-private partnerships.

The statement followed recent protests over illegal immigration—with alleged attacks on immigrants, including Ghanaians—and Ghana's request for an AU debate on alleged xenophobia against African nationals in South Africa.
