'Takes an African to Tell the Right Story About Africa': Ghanaian Influencer on Reshaping Continent's Image
Digital media has empowered Africans to become ambassadors of their own continent, Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the Inaugural African Social Media Influencers Summit in Addis Ababa.
For too long, outsiders have defined Africa through narratives of famine and conflict, but the new media offers a chance to change that, he noted.
"One person cannot do it all by themselves. It takes each and every African," the influencer said, adding that the collective effort of content creators is essential to reverse decades of negative stereotypes.
He praised Ethiopia’s newly established POA media platform as a step in the right direction.
Wode Maya called on African influencers to use their platforms with one voice to project the continent positively and tell Africa’s true story: "That is what is happening here today," he said.
