Videos of Xenophobic Attacks in South Africa 'Fake,' Foreigners Victims of General Crime: Minister
Fabricated clips allegedly showing attacks on foreign nationals are intended to tarnish South Africa's reputation and undermine its "better Africa agenda," South African Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni stated.
While acknowledging that foreigners have been victims of crime, she attributed this to general criminality rather than xenophobia and insisted there are "no xenophobic attacks in South Africa."
This follows a wave of diplomatic pressure from several African countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya, after videos surfaced allegedly showing vigilante groups confronting people they believed were illegal migrants.
Meanwhile, thousands of South Africans have protested against illegal immigration, demanding mass deportations.
Ntshavheni affirmed citizens' right to protest but warned against violence. Earlier, the presidency emphasized that South Africa remains a welcoming nation.
