Kenya & Tanzania Can Protect East Africans From Foreign Trade by Investing in Internal Production: Tanzanian Expert

East African countries must implement economic policies of protecting locally manufactured goods instead of imports from Asia and other regions, Lugete Moussa Lugete, an international politics analyst, told Sputnik Africa, commenting on William Ruto's state visit to Tanzania.

According to the speaker, it is important to ensure energy security through developing a domestic refinery industry in order to be invulnerable to global supply disruptions.

"To ensure this, the East African leaders actually should be close, should discuss together in order to ensure the development, effective development, or economic freedom of the East African people against the foreign trade, against the capitalistic powers, and against the international barriers and trade," he noted.

Moreover, Tanzanian agricultural production has the potential to feed the entire East African region, ensuring its food security, the expert emphasized.
