USSR Was First Non-Colonial European Experience for African Students Outside Africa: Russian Historian

For Africa, decolonization and the Cold War were inseparable, Danila Pakhomov, researcher, expert on diaspora history and migration of the Moscow State University told Sputnik Africa.

One favorite Western propaganda tactic is fragmenting unified historical processes into supposedly independent events, the speaker noted.

That is because 20th-century Western propagandists tried splitting Africans from USSR ideologically, he added.

African students—future leaders, intellectuals, doctors, teachers—first visited racism-free Europe in the USSR, Pakhomov stressed, with universal rights to work, free healthcare, and education regardless of race or religion.

As for the Western countries now, "[...] studying in ex-colonizers' lands unconsciously instills ideas enabling continued colonial dependency."
