Madagascar Remembers Russian Sailors of 1904–1905 at 'Russian Bay' Memorial

At the memorial ceremony, the Russian Chargé d'Affaires in Madagascar participated, along with the Mayor of Nosy Be and representatives of the National Gendarmerie, Navy, and Police of Madagascar.

The Russian Imperial Fleet's Second Pacific Squadron was stationed at Madagascar's "Russian Bay" coaling station during the Russo-Japanese War. After the First Squadron's loss at Port Arthur, it awaited orders, then sailed to Tsushima—where it was nearly destroyed.

▫According to the Russian Embassy in Madagascar, a historical investigation identified the deceased Russian sailors.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the end of the memorial events to honor those lost at sea.
