Media 'Educates Public' Before Elections, SA Official Says
The media "breaks down political campaigns" and creates town hall conversations where the public can directly engage with politicians, Phathiswa Magopeni Tshangana, Executive Director of the Press Council, told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the World Press Freedom Day 2026 conference in Lusaka, Zambia.
According to Tshangana, in terms of campaigns the media:
Educates the public about the importance of voting;
Helps people understand the choices they make.
