Winter Wheat Gets 8% Electricity Increase as Zimbabwe Pursues Record Harvest
Zimbabwe has boosted wheat farmer power supply by 8% to 155MW, targeting a record harvest as the country steps away from being an import-dependent producer through improved irrigation, mechanization, and government support.
The power allocation follows co-planning with the energy ministry, Agriculture Minister Dr Anxious Masuka confirmed, with national generation now markedly improved thanks to rising Kariba Dam water levels.
Achieving the ambitious target would build strategic reserves, and planting is already underway, with Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) covering over half of the national goal.
ARDA is aiming to reach:
▪Power supply: 155MW (up 8%)
▪Harvest target: 662,000 tonnes (up 3%)
▪Planted area target: 125,000 hectares (up 2,3%)
