Mountainbike Eliminator Pro League Concludes in Addis Ababa
The international cycling race drew over 35 elite cyclists from African countries, Europe, and Asia to Addis Ababa.
The world‑class cycling event, recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale, was held on a 506‑meter circuit around Piasa in Arada district.
“We want sports events to come to us; this not only strengthens ties and diplomacy but also helps us connect and get closer to the world,” Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abebe said at the official opening of the race.
The event not only highlights Addis Ababa’s modern landmarks and promotes cycling as a competitive sport, but will also help position the city as a hub for sports tourism, a Sputnik Africa correspondent noted.
The winners included athletes from the Netherlands, Slovenia, Austria, and Sweden.
Among the African podium finishers were Kenyan Monica Kiplagat and Kendra Tabu Masiga.
