Niamey Plans to Resume Niger-Nigeria Railway Project: Nigerien Minister of Transport
The planned railway line will connect Maradi in south-central Niger to Kano, the main city of northern Nigeria.
A meeting between Nigerien and Nigerian officials is set to take place in Niamey to discuss the practical steps for implementing the project, according to Abdourahamane Amadou.
This construction is part of a broader vision of connecting several capitals of the sub-region, he added.
The minister specified that, in the long term, the railway network is planned to extend from:
Maradi Niamey Zinder (eastward) Diffa (southeast, near the border with Nigeria )
There are also potential links to the Cameroonian corridor via the port of Douala.
