CEMAC Mining Code Would Help African Countries Stand Together Against Multinationals, Says ExpertA common mining code would reduce competition among the six member states of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, according to Dupleix Fernand Kuenzob, a former member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative."When several states with the same resources are facing multinationals, those multinationals can compare the concessions granted to them, weakening states that cannot optimize the exploitation of their resources," he told Sputnik Africa. However, Kuenzob warned that a code alone is not enough. The real shift in power would come if CEMAC countries invested in local processing technology. "That would give them the capacity to compete with multinationals, whose budgets sometimes exceed the combined budgets of all CEMAC states," he said.Subscribe to @sputnik_africa Sputnik Africa | X

A common mining code would reduce competition among the six member states of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, according to Dupleix Fernand Kuenzob, a former member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.
"When several states with the same resources are facing multinationals, those multinationals can compare the concessions granted to them, weakening states that cannot optimize the exploitation of their resources," he told Sputnik Africa.
However, Kuenzob warned that a code alone is not enough. The real shift in power would come if CEMAC countries invested in local processing technology.
