Cameroonian Arabica Coffee, Once Overlooked by Major Industries, Now in High Demand: Journalist

Cameroonian coffee is aromatic and smooth, making it highly sought after by connoisseurs who are willing to pay a premium for it, Thierry Djoussi, the president of the Association of Cameroonian Journalists for Agriculture and Development, told Sputnik Africa.

"The boom is benefiting producers but also the national economy. It's foreign exchange that comes in and helps reduce the trade balance imbalance."

Djoussi stressed that the next major step for Cameroon is to increase the value of its coffee through local processing.

"Cameroon exports the bulk of its production. It's green coffee. The raw material, different from ground coffee or soluble coffee, which multinationals like Nestlé then send back to us, allowing them to make 10 times, or even 100 times, more profit."
