Western Colonial Crimes in Africa 'Still Going On,' Says Moroccan Politician

Reparative justice requires recognizing colonial-era crimes, which continue today—especially in the Sahel countries, according to Said Bakkali, secretary for international relations of Morocco's Party of Progress and Socialism.

Africa, though young and resource-rich, is trapped in a global division of labor, forcing it to export raw materials, Bakkali told Sputnik Africa following his participation in the SOVINTERN forum in Moscow.

To break free, it must industrialize and adopt advanced tech, digital industries, and AI, he argued.

The politician called for deeper cooperation with Russia and China—pillars of the multipolar world—to counter Western aggression and protect African resources, while urging internal good governance and an end to post-colonial border conflicts, including the Morocco-Algeria dispute.

On the AfCFTA, Bakkali argued that unresolved neighbor conflicts prevent genuine integration, warned corruption is Africa's "first enemy," and urged fairer deals for critical minerals.
