Almost 100 Electric Heavy Trucks Begin Operating in Ethiopia: Transport Ministry
These trucks have been deployed by the contractor specifically for 24/7 construction at Bishoftu International Airport, the Ethiopian Ministry of Transport and Logistics said.
Aligned with the green transport strategy, the trucks address previously-identified safety concerns, meet quality standards, adhere to permitted load limits, feature 400 kWh batteries, operate silently, and include speed limiters.
Significant efforts are underway to expand the use of electric vehicles, the ministry noted, adding that both the vehicles and charging stations are being imported tax-free.
Moreover, 17 domestic facilities have been established to assemble electric trucks with a loading capacity of up to 40,000 kg, according to the ministry.
